Finals Week Fab 5

Finals week is upon me and my fellow students and another Monday brings of course an update to the Fab 5 Hitlist.  For the first time since the week of November 3, the list is without Mr. Sam Smith, as his “Lay Me Down” bows out after 3 weeks ending a stretch of 6 weeks on the list.  Also leaving is Randy Houser’s “Like A Cowboy”, which spent the last two weeks on the list.

But of course, when someone leaves, someone must take its place.  The two new additions this week come from my Spotify-created Play It Forward list.  Bea Miller joins the ranks with “Young Blood”.  She is accompanied by Andy Grammer and his infectious “Honey, I’m Good.”

Hanging on for weeks four, three and two are Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars (“Uptown Funk”), James Bay (“Hold Back The River”) and One Direction (“18”).

The New Fab 5, plus some extras

The Fab 5 Hitlist has been updated.  Not too much change this week as 4 songs carry over from last week.  Sam Smith stays on for week number three with “Lay Me Down, as do Bruno Mars and Mark Ronson with their hit “Uptown Funk.”  Randy Houser and James Bay hang in for a second week with their songs “Like a Cowboy” and “Hold Back The River.”  Returning to the list this week are the undeniable boys from One Direction.  Their song “18” hits the list as Winston Drei Tod’s “You Are What I’m Needing” falls after just one week.

Check out the list here.

Also, Spotify just released their year in review, and allows its users to have their own Play It Forward list created based on their listening tendencies in 2014.  The list will include songs that Spotify thinks you will enjoy.  My list is here.

Don’t forget the Christmas Bonus Playlist.

Just got done tweaking this week’s playlist.  A lot of changes.  Sam Smith falls and hangs on at the same time as his “I’m Not The Only One” is off the list for the first time in almost a month, while “Lay Me Down” hangs on for a second week.  Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars also stick around for week number two with “Uptown Funk”

Three new entries find their way onto the list this week.  Randy Houser makes his debut with “Like a Cowboy”.  When his album How Country Feels first came out, I could not get enough of this song, and I’m so happy to see it being released as a single and gaining traction at radio.  Thanks to the Spotify New Release playlist I discovered James Bay.  His track “Hold Back The River” is one of the other new entries this week.  Lastly, I included a local artist whose song I’ve really taken a liking to.  Winston Drei Tod’s “You Are What I’m Needing” is a fun piece that caught my attention thanks to a colleague of mine.

With all the entries some must fall.  Joining Sam Smith’s “I’m Not The Only One” (4 weeks) on the chopping block are Sturgill Simpson’s “The Promise” (3 weeks) and Ingrid Michaelson’s “Time Machine” (3 weeks)

Here’s the list.

Better Late Than Never – New Fab 5

Been under the weather for a little while, so I apologize for the late update to the Fab 5 Hitlist.  A lot going on this week.  Sam Smith stays on the list for a record 4th week with “I’m Not the Only One.”  He also becomes the first artist to have two songs appear on the list as his track “Lay Me Down” finds its way to the Hitlist for the first time.  The other new addition to the list this week is “Uptown Funk” by Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars.  With new entries comes some casualties.  First, Little Big Town find themselves off the list for the first time in 4 weeks as “Faster Gun” only lasts one week on the list.  Joey Hyde also only enjoyed one week on the Fab 5 as his “Get It On’ gets shown the door this week.

Check out the list here.

BONUS:  As you might expect, I am definitely listening to some Christmas tunes.  Tis the Season.  Check out a bonus Christmas playlist here.  It will be updated throughout the holiday season.  Happy Holidays!

Happy Listening! – MNM

Fab 5 Updated

Just switched up a few tracks on the Fab 5 Hit List.  After seeing him live Saturday night, I felt compelled to throw Joey Hyde into the mix with his first single, “Get It On.”  Which means, one would have to fall off, so goodbye to Raelynn and “God Made Girls.”  Little Big Town replaces itself, as “Girl Crush” goes out to pasture and “Faster Gun” shoots onto the list.  All the while, Sam Smith (week 3), Sturgill Simpson (week 2) and Ingrid Michaelson (week 2) hang on for another week.

Check out the playlist here.

New Fab 5

New Fab 5 Hitlist is up now!

The boys of 1D have been kicked to the curb as a couple of new entrants make their way onto the list.  Ingrid Michaelson joins the party with “Time Machine” off her album Lights Out.  And thanks to a colleague of mine, I have discovered Sturgill Simpson.  His song “The Promise” is my favorite off an album (Metamodern Sounds in Country Music) that, in my opinion, should be in contention for numerous industry awards.  Little Big Town hang in for one more week with “Girl Crush” and two other holdovers stick around as well (Raelynn with “God Made Girls” and Sam Smith with “I’m Not The Only One”).
